The marquee industry event has been held for decades in January, but was shifted to June for 2020, before being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The media preview and public days will now be held from Sep. 24 to Oct. 9, 2020.

“September is an excellent time of year for new product, and at the same time, alleviates the challenges a now crowded spring auto show calendar presents for auto show stakeholders,” NAIAS Executive Director Rod Alberts said in a press release on the move.

Earlier in September, organizers for the Los Angeles Auto

If you like electric cars, or motorcycles (or both!), stop what you’re doing and watch Long Way Up

Just in case you haven’t heard, Long Way Up is the third installment in Ewan McGregor’s and Charlie Boorman’s trilogy of long-distance motorcycle adventure rides.

What makes this one so special, though, is that the duo set out on a pair of Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles, attempting to cover 15,000 miles (25,000 km) of incredibly remote terrain from the southern tip of Argentina all the way to Los Angeles.

[Author’s Note: There are no major spoilers here; you’re safe to keep reading.]

If you haven’t binge-watched Long Way Up yet, then don’t worry.

The series was just released this weekend with the first three episodes available on Apple TV+.

A new episode will be released every Friday, so it will be easy for you to catch up. And boy, is it worth it.

The interesting thing about the choice of motorcycle for the trip, at least from the perspective of

Rivian, other startups face ban from Michigan dealers in direct-sales fight

Michigan auto dealers are trying to block startup electric carmakers such as Rivian Automotive Inc. and Lucid Motors Inc. from following in Tesla Inc.’s footsteps by selling vehicles directly to consumers and servicing them in the state.

A bill introduced in the Michigan Legislature last week would block any manufacturer other than Tesla from selling cars to customers without a dealer as an intermediary and from owning and operating service and repair facilities. It could come up for a vote as soon as Tuesday, according to a Rivian official.

Rivian has maintained a major engineering operation with 750 employees in Plymouth for the last few years, but has been moving some of those positions to California in recent months.

The 11-year-old company has raised about $6 billion from backers including Ford Motor Co. and Amazon.com Inc. It expects to begin production of its first two vehicles — a battery-powered pickup

Why the Detroit auto show is changing dates, again

DETROIT — The Detroit auto show is changing dates — again.

After reimagining the new vehicle showcase as a summertime indoor/outdoor event, originally scheduled for June 2020 but postponed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic, show organizers said Monday the event would take place Sept. 28 to Oct. 9, 2021, and would remain in the fall moving forward.

The change comes weeks after organizers for the Los Angeles Auto Show said they would move the 2020 show from November to May 2021, wedging itself in between the New York and Detroit shows. And in Europe, the Geneva auto show is considering a March 2021 date.

“Our responsibility as an auto show is to host a global stage for current products as well as mobility innovations of tomorrow,” North American International Auto Show Executive Director Rod Alberts said in a statement. “September is an excellent time of year for new

Quibi, the short-form streaming service started by Jeffrey Katzenberg and led by Meg Whitman, is exploring a sale of the company, two people familiar with the matter said Monday.

The company is working with financial advisers to consider a range of options that also include raising money or going public by merging with a special purpose acquisition vehicle, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss company plans.

Quibi was launched earlier this year with the aim of providing short entertainment and news videos for people on the go. But it fell out of the list of the 50 most downloaded free iPhone apps in the United States after just a week when it debuted in April. Executives blamed the coronavirus

Gas may be cheap and the future may be uncertain, but automakers around the world have followed Tesla’s lead and pushed forward in a rush to produce electric vehicles in a big way. While we’ve seen EVs arrive from manufacturers like GM and Nissan in fits and starts over the years, 2021 will see scores of new entrants from the big brands. Small upstarts, too, will join the fray, like domestic manufacturer Rivian, plus at least one surprising name from the past: Hummer. If the former symbol of gas-guzzling excess can go electric, a revolution is definitely around the corner.

Detroit Auto Show Settles On September 2021 For Its Reappearance

After being buffeted for a couple of years by intensifying competition from the Consumer Electronics Show, growing indifference by German automakers, moves by other troubled auto shows, and, finally, Covid-19, the North American International Auto Show just announced that it will next appear in Detroit in September, 2021, and occupy that early-fall slot indefinitely.

NAIAS was going to reappear in June, 2021, a year after its planned revival in June of this year was scrapped because of the pandemic. “We have talked with many of our partneres, particularly the OEMs, and they are fully on board and excited about the date change,” NAIAS Executive Director Rod Alberts said in a press release.

The last NAIAS actually conducted was in January, 2019, in what was then

Detroit Auto Show makes an official, permanent move to Fall

The Detroit Auto Show just moved its 2021 show dates from June 11-26 to September 28 through October 9. In other news, the earth is still orbiting the sun. Honestly, it would be bigger news if the NAIAS announced it was keeping its originally scheduled dates and not pushing the show back. Delaying an auto show due to COVID-19 is the norm these days. It’s more a matter of when it will be delayed as opposed to if.

However, the news breaking today applies to more than just the 2021 Detroit Auto Show. Henceforth, the Detroit Auto Show will take place at the end of September and beginning of October. The NAIAS has secured dates for the next three years at the TCF Center (previously known as Cobo Hall) in Detroit, all at approximately the same time. So, after all the talk of how fantastic a summer Detroit Auto

Greece to boost military amid tensions with Turkey

ATHENS, Greece — Greece will bolster its military with new arms, more personnel and by developing the country’s defense industry, the government said Monday, as a tense standoff with neighboring Turkey has led to concerns of open conflict between the two NATO allies.

Ankara is facing off against Greece and Cyprus over oil and gas exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Greece and Turkey have deployed naval and air forces to assert their competing claims.

“The Turkish leadership is unleashing, on a near daily basis, threats of war and makes provocative statements against Greece,” Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas said. “We respond with political, diplomatic and operational readiness, determined to do whatever is necessary to protect our sovereign rights.”

Petsas said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis would be announcing details of plans to upgrade the country’s military during his annual state of the economy speech on Saturday.

Last week, Greece
