Used vehicle prices rise thanks to coronavirus, but relief is coming

DETROIT (AP) — It cost a whole lot more to buy a used SUV, car, truck or van last month than it did before the coronavirus hit, and that almost singlehandedly caused September’s modest consumer price increase.

Blame it on the pandemic, which knocked supply and demand way out of whack, causing prices to spike.

The good news is that inventories are being replenished, and prices are beginning to drop.

“The law of supply and demand worked,” said Earl Stewart, owner of a Toyota dealership in North Palm Beach, Florida. “I think things are coming back to normal.”

When the novel coronavirus made its way to the industrial Midwest and the South in March and April, it forced automakers to shutter factories, and many dealers closed. Sales of new vehicles tanked. With few vehicles being traded in for new ones, and leases being extended, the supply of used vehicles dried

Used vehicle prices up as supply sinks, but relief is coming

A shortage of used vehicles in the U.S. has pushed up prices, and that caused much of September’s modest inflation increase

Detroit Mid-Engine Sports Cars are Coming

Back in our December 1969 issue, we ran a story highlighting Ford and Chevrolet’s skunk works effort to develop new mid-engine supercars. With both automakers now finally offering mid-engine sports cars to the public, the Ford GT and the 2020 MotorTrend Car of The Year-winning 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, we thought it’d be fun to dive back into this old magazine story.

Detroit’s in the grip of mid-engine mania. Again, there’s said to be a mid-engine Corvette in the works, for 1972 or perhaps ’73. Ford may force Chevy’s hand with a new mid-engine machine to compete head-on with the invincible ‘Vette and, even if Dearborn defers building its own, they recently signed a deal with Alessandro de Tomaso, maker of one of today’s finest mid-engine sports cars, to Ford-power all future Mangustas and construct styling prototypes. American Motors has shown its slick AMX/2 and is rumored to be readying

From Autoweek

  • 2021 BMW 4-Series Convertible will start at $54,095

  • A mild hybrid system is standard on six-cylinder-powered models

  • Expected to hit dealers in March 2021

Following the reveal of the M3 sedan and the M4 coupe, BMW is showing off the latest-generation 4-Series Convertible. While it might be hard to believe, this is only the second generation of the 4-Series Convertible since it was spun off the 3-Series lineup in 2013. For 2021, BMW aggressively restyled the 4-Series, added some oomph and expanded its technical powers with extra tech.

As you’d expect, the changes follow its fixed-top counterpart that debuted earlier this year. The powertrains, for example, are exactly the same. Base 430i badged cars move along by way of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to 440i badged convertibles you find BMW’s beloved B58 inline-six. For

If you’re in the market to buy Classic car insurance, you may be wondering what your options are. What you and I see as a classic car, when we look for insurance is, to most car insurance companies, just an old car worth very little.

Just an old Car?

For example, say you have an “old” 1970 Ford Mustang with a sports roof. Your local insurance provider looks in his book and says, you know, that thing’s over 30 years old, so the policy is pretty cheap.

And you’re thinking, great, cheap Classic Car insurance. But what do you get if your car gets into an accident and needs to be repaired? What is their value of your cherry 1970 Mustang Boss 302 to them?

Maybe a couple thousand bucks. Not good. Particularly since even your wheels and tires are worth more than that…

Agreed Value

So, what do … Read More
