Ring, Echo Dot, Kindle Fire & More

Delayed but not forgotten, Amazon’s annual Prime Day is a only a few sleeps away. The official Prime Day dates are October 13th and 14th, but given that the entire purpose of Prime Day is for Amazon to sell its own products and gather Amazon Prime subscribers (you have to be a member in order to partake in exclusive Prime Day sales), Amazon has released an early list of not only its own products such as Alexa devices, but many of the upcoming Prime Day sales items. For the sake of brevity I won’t be listing every Amazon-branded sale item here, but instead focusing on the best Prime Day deals on Amazon tech devices.

This is the second week of early Prime Day deals. Last week, Amazon discounted a 4K TV, the Echo Dot, and the Fire TV Recast. Though those deals have ended, you can now save on a trio of 4K Fire TVs, the Kindle Paperwhite, and more. Poway auto shop destroyed in 2-alarm fire

POWAY (CNS) – Two brothers say their auto shop is a total loss after a fire Sunday.

“It’s my livelihood. It is my pride and joy. It was my dream and now it’s turned into a nightmare,” Nolan Pike said.

He and his brother David Pike have operated WOW Auto Care in Poway for six years. They grew up in the community and have worked on cars there since high school.

Flames tore though the shop at 12255 Poway Road beginning at 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters said a second alarm was called for more help. It took firefighters about 50 minutes to put out the fire out.

The garage side of the business was destroyed along with at least 8 vehicles. Firefighters were able to save the office next to the garage.

“Definitely going to be hard to satisfy our clients and continue employing our employees, not lose our great

Fire Department Funding – The 4 Upcoming Critical Financial Issues That Will Rock Your World

The Fire Service will be undergoing a transformation in the next few years that will impact every single fire department in the U.S. These issues will separate the survivors from the perished.

Issue #1: People will be a lot more expensive.

It doesn’t matter if you are a paid, volunteer, or combination department. The costs of having fire fighters will be increasing at an alarming rate. And it isn’t just payroll, it is the total expense of having people fight your fires.

The four trends for the higher costs are:

  1. Payroll. If you pay your fire fighters, the cost of paying their salary will be increasing. Add to that the cost of insurance, workman’s comp, and payroll taxes, you have a explosive mixture just waiting to absorb your budget.
  2. Attraction Costs. If you don’t pay your fire fighters, you will spend more money finding and attracting volunteer labor. The facts

Death by Fire

Burning at the stake was a form of execution practiced at least as far back as Babylonia and ancient Israel. Treason, heresy, and witchcraft were among the crimes for which this choice of capital punishment was most often used. Death by fire was a slow and excruciating execution. Occasionally, if a large fire was built, the victim would succumb to asphyxiation before the flames touched his or her skin. Most often suffering was part of the plan; therefore the fire was deliberately made small. In this situation, death could take up to an hour and would usually result from loss of blood or heatstroke.

Various methods are known to have been used for burning people at the stake. In one, the stake would be driven into the ground and the prisoner would be fastened with chains or iron hoops. The stake would then be surrounded by a low pile of … Read More

Willys-Overland Motors Jeep CJ-2A 1946 – Boyer Fire Apparatus Jeep J-140

My interest in Jeeps started back when I was in high school, in the early 1970s. A school buddy of mine, named Jim Little (who is still a friend of mine today) had a 1953 Willys Jeep CJ-3A in his family. It was used primarily up at their cottage in the Laurentians, north of Montreal, Quebec. As was typical, it was a utility vehicle, used to: pull gang mowers to cut the lawn; haul cut wood for the fireplace; carry tree trimmings to the compost pile; etc. Other than having wider and softer tires than the original tires, it was an original Jeep, authentic and without major alterations, from what I remember.

I frequently visited Jim’s cottage and became accustomed to the effortful chores required to maintain such a large cottage property. The Jeep was involved in most projects around the cottage and it always seemed to run without any … Read More
