Auto parts imports from China down 42% during April-July: Ministry data

Auto components and parts imports from China dropped by around 42 per cent during April-July 2020 to $246.33 million from $424.32 million, a year ago. Internal combustion (IC) engines and imports reduced to $58.78 million from $89.57 million, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry data.

Industry representatives have attributed the drop to the pandemic-driven slowdown in automobile sales. However, with the government’s push for more localisation and initiatives undertaken by the industry, additional business of Rs 25,000–30,000 crore within the next 3-4 years is possible and if volumes are sustained.

Last year, India imported components worth $17 billion, of which China accounted for 26 per cent or $4.5 billion. The rest came from South Korea, Germany and Japan, among others, Auto Component Manufacturers’ Association of India (ACMA) data shows.

Special prosecutor wants to examine car in fatal crash that led to Berwyn cop’s death

A special prosecutor said he wants to examine a truck driven by a Plainfield man facing drunk driving charges in connection with a deadly car crash that led to the death of a Berwyn police officer.

On Tuesday, Special Prosecutor Bill Elward of the Office of the State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutor told Judge Ben Braun during a court hearing for Joliet police officer Erin Zilka, 36, that the owner of a Nissan truck driven by Rodrigo Marin, 43, has sought the return of the vehicle. Elward said he spoke with Zilka’s attorney Jeff Tomczak about the issue.

“I’ve instructed the state police not to do that until both myself and Mr. Tomczak had a chance to take a look at the vehicle,” Elward said.

Zilka and Marin were arrested following a multi-vehicle car crash on Interstate 55 that led to the death of Berwyn police officer Charles Schauer, 33, who

‘Our well ran dry’: Campaign launched to save the Arnprior Legion

Across Canada, hundreds of legions have become forgotten victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Ottawa Valley, there is a campaign underway to help save the Arnprior Legion.

“We knew we couldn’t lose it,” says Tracy Smith, one of the organizers of the Arnprior Save Our Legion campaign.

“Our town would lose a huge asset. Remembrance Day, our veterans would have no place to go, military have no place to go.”

The Arnprior Legion closed its doors in March when the pandemic began, and has only recently reopened on Fridays and Saturdays for a few hours.

“Most of our income comes from hall rentals,” says Steven Darling, kitchen coordinator at the Arnprior Legion. “It comes from events we can put on. The bingos have had to stop. We don’t know if we’re going to be able to do a poppy campaign this year. Our well pretty well ran

Warning for drivers: Petrol and diesel cars could be BANNED within decade | UK | News (Reports)

Ministers are being urged to improve access to charging points for electric vehicles (EV) and offer financial incentives such as VAT reductions to encourage drivers to buy non fossil-fuel cars and vans. The call comes ahead of an expected announcement from the Government on its consultation to move the date for the phase out of sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans forward from 2040 to 2030 and to include hybrids in the ban.

Labour has also called for the date to be shifted to 2030 to cut carbon and curb air pollution, while the Government’s advisory Committee on Climate Change said the phase out should happen by 2032 at the latest.

Boris Johnson is expected to confirm the new target as early as next week.

Helen Clarkson, CEO of international non-profit the Climate Group and organisers of Climate Week NYC event, said: “Only bold action can achieve

  • You want to get the best price, sure, but “aggressive negotiations” work better in Star Wars than with a dealer whom you want to buy your car.
  • There’s a special kind of vehicle history report you can get if you’re selling an EV, thanks to a new startup called Recurrent.

Used cars continue to be in high demand these days and, as we mentioned last week, that can give sellers the upper hand. But if everyone knows that they can get a good deal for their old car right now, then how can you make your ride stand out?

Most sellers can name the basics, like having good, clean
