Special Olympics MN still on with COVID-19-safe events

Taking inspiration from drive-up graduations, drive-thru parades, and drive-in movies, organizers created the first State Punt, Pass, Kick Drive-Thru Competition.

“It’s been really popular. We have four locations between this weekend and next weekend, right around 190 participants signed up between them all,” said Devin Kaasa, senior manager for sports and education with Special Olympics Minnesota.

Athletes and their families pull up to sign in and then wait in their cars with a view of the events until it’s their turn to compete. Masks were required and all families were asked COVID-19 screening questions before athletes were able to compete.

The Woodbury location Saturday had athletes throwing, kicking, and punting a football. They also ran the 40-yard dash and finished with the plank.

After picking up a “swag bag” and getting their individual picture, they were back in their car and done for the day. There was plenty of room

Want an electric car, but think you can’t afford one? Here’s how to buy second-hand

Many Australians say they would consider buying an electric car. But unfortunately, new electric vehicles don’t come cheap.

Even at the more affordable end of the market, a new Nissan Leaf or Hyundai Ioniq cost around A$50,000. The popular Tesla Model 3 would set you back A$66,000.

But there’s another option: buy second-hand. A used electric vehicle can be yours for under A$20,000. However supply is limited and, like with any major purchase, there are pitfalls to watch for.

I’m an energy consumer advocate, researcher and electric vehicle owner, and have helped friends and family buy their electric cars. So let’s take a look at where to find second-hand electric cars in Australia, and what to think about before handing over your cash.

Polestar 2 cars recalled due to potential power loss

Geely and Volvo Cars are the parent company of electric vehicle maker Polestar. Not long ago, Polestar issued a recall on close to 2200 Polestar 2 electric vehicles. The recall is blamed on a software glitch that caused several vehicles to lose power and stop running while driving.

A company spokesperson has said that there have been no accidents or personal injury related with these incidents. The spokesperson also noted that the brakes, steering, and other systems continued to function as expected despite losing power. The company has notified all owners as of Friday and intends to fix the software issue at a company service location as soon as possible.

The Polestar 2 is sold in China, Europe, and the US. The company has a goal to have an annual sales volume of over 50,000 vehicles within the next 2 to 3 years. Many see the vehicle as the best

No big discounts on luxury cars this festival season

After months-long struggle due to Covid-19, the domestic luxury car market has started to see some recovery and hopes to do better during the festival season.

However, there won’t be much of offers or discounts this year and companies will limit themselves to attractive finance scheme or complimentary insurance so that there are enough foot-falls at their outlets.

For instance, market leader Mercedes-Benz India has rolled out the ‘Unlock with Mercedes-Benz’ campaign for the festival period starting September and has seen a good response.

“The unlock campaign has some attractive offers for the C-Class, E-Class and GLC with attractive finance schemes including low EMI, attractive ROI and complimentary insurance,” Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mercedes-Benz India, told BusinessLine.

He also cautioned that this year’s festival season will be a challenging task, but a ‘succesful one like last year’.

Going once, going twice … multiple properties on the auction block | Local Business News

The properties range from the Stoysich House of Sausage 3,000-square-foot building in west Omaha to a 62-acre tract of land in Sarpy County.

In the case of two parcels, one in Bellevue and the other in northwest Omaha, the owner bought them a decade ago for bank branches that never materialized.

A 12-acre site in Bennington was once a developer’s desired spot for a townhouse project, but that plan changed.

Neary said the pandemic has prompted people to reassess many things, and property holdings are no exception. He said most of the sites to be auctioned were slated for commercial development, but the better use today might be residential.

He said this is the first multiple-property auction coordinated by Investors Realty brokers, and it might become an annual event. The auction also will be available online through Proxibid.
