Endless Summer Cruisin’ is coming to Ocean City, and that means lower speed limits are in store as the town sets up another Special Event Zone.
The Cruisin’ car show is expected to bring thousands to the Eastern Shore during its run from Thursday, Oct. 8, until Sunday, Oct. 11. The Special Event Zone is slated to be in place starting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
That designation lowers established speed limits and increases fines for traffic violations, according to a town news release. Legislation enacted in 2020 also increased penalties for specific vehicle infractions within the zone. Violators can even face the possibility of arrest.

A large police presence is expected as officers from allied agencies, including the Maryland State Police and Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, aid the Ocean City Police Department with enforcement.
The release shows drivers should anticipate significant traffic congestion as alternate traffic patterns will likely be implemented throughout the weekend.

Spectators are urged to keep sidewalks clear for pedestrian traffic and refrain from encouraging drivers to spin their wheels or perform “burn-outs.” Laws will not only be strictly enforced for drivers, but also for the spectators who incite illegal activity, according to police.
This upcoming Special Event Zone is set for two weeks from the last time the town used the designation, when thousands descended for the unofficial H2Oi pop-up car rally.
The unsanctioned gathering, organized largely via social media, saw 345 vehicles towed, 277 arrests and more than 1,200 traffic stops from Thursday, Sept. 24, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
