This week I had the pleasure to visit two of the Stephenson County businesses that participate in our Membership Value Program. Our Membership Value program is a discount program offered to all Stephenson County Farm Bureau members. We’ve partnered with over 20 local businesses to offer discounts.
This week I visited A.J.’s Lena Maid Meats and Auto Repair Specialists. While visiting with these businesses, I took some short videos to highlight the services provided by each. We will be posting these videos on our Facebook page for our followers to enjoy. If you’d like a full list of our Membership Value Program businesses and the discounts they offer, please visit our office or call our office at 815-232-3186 and we will mail you a list of the businesses.

Nut and candy orders due Oct.16: Back by popular demand, we will be hosting a Terri Lynn Nut and Candy sale. Products for sale include pecans, cashews, mixed nuts, pistachios, almonds, pecan, peanuts and much more. Well-water testing offered by Stephenson SWCD: The Stephenson County Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a Well Water Testing Program on Monday through Oct. 14. As with everything in 2020, our program has been pushed back due to COVID-19 and we will be handling the program differently. We will be selling kits from the entryway since customers are not currently allowed into the office. Please call the office at 815-235-2141, ext. 3 when you arrive to purchase kits. Personal checks would be the best method of payment if possible. The program, which tests drinking and well water for nitrates, certain pesticides and 22 different heavy metals, has been organized as a drive to keep costs down. Kits will be sold from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and Oct. 13 at the SWCD office, 1620 S. Galena Ave. Participants are asked to take water samples either Oct. 13 or the morning of Oct. 14, and return the kits to the District office by 3 p.m., Oct. 14.
Water samples for all tests will be immediately shipped to the laboratory. Prices will vary depending on the type of test ordered. Any test or combination of tests may be ordered. A confidential report of the results will be mailed directly to the home or farm owner within six to eight weeks. PurTest® Bacteria self-testing kit is available from the District for $20. This is not part of the regular testing kits. For more information, call the SWCD office at 815-235-2141, ext. 3, or visit the SWCD website at stephensonswcd.org.
