Whether you’re a parent or a student, college is a big step. Earning a degree allows you to follow your dreams or find the career that is right for you, from flying planes to cracking cases. However, with student debt in the U.S. reaching an all-time high of $1.4 trillion in 2019, according to Experian data, finding an affordable university is a top priority for many students and their families.
With affordable tuition rates, more than 100 in-demand degree programs and a welcoming community, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) strikes an important balance. For out-of-state students, EKU offers a flat, discounted tuition rate of $10,300 per year. At $5,150 per semester, it costs students less than many schools in their home states.
Out of state, but close to home
One of the biggest draws for some students is finding a sweet spot between studying out of state and staying connected to friends and family. Located less than two hours by car from Cincinnati in Richmond, Kentucky, EKU is easy to reach from Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Students can enjoy the real campus experience and still head home for the holidays or a weekend visit.
Even after graduation, many students consider EKU a second home. “Being a Colonel means forever having a home and a family at Eastern,” says Haley Nabors, a 2020 graduate from EKU’s College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. “During my time here, Eastern was my home away from home, and I could not be more grateful.” (The Colonel has been the school’s mascot since 1963.)
Modern amenities and rich history
With a longstanding legacy of student support and a vibrant campus community, EKU fosters a welcoming and friendly environment. Surrounded by Kentucky’s legendary Bluegrass region in one of the state’s fastest-growing cities, Richmond, students have easy access to natural beauty and historic sights.
The beautiful campus features modern amenities, including a brand-new recreation center with a pool and climbing wall, a renovated student center and suite-style residence halls. Among these new facilities and historic buildings, you’ll also find a state-of-the-art science building — and ample outdoor spaces for studying, relaxing and hanging out with friends across the campus.
Exciting and important coursework
Students live and learn at EKU with a choice of more than 100 diverse and varied degree programs. From learning about criminal justice to training in nursing, the wide range of disciplines includes:
● American sign language
● Education and teaching
● Fire, arson and explosion investigation
● Forensic science
● Occupational therapy
● Recreation and park administration
Each year, nearly 15,000 students attend EKU, including more than 12,000 undergraduates. To learn more about Eastern Kentucky University, plan a visit at go.eku.edu/visit or take a virtual tour at go.eku.edu/virtualtour.
