Special prosecutor wants to examine Plainfield man’s vehicle in fatal car crash case

A special prosecutor said he wants to examine a truck driven by a Plainfield man facing drunk driving charges in connection with a deadly car crash that led to the death of a Berwyn police officer.

On Tuesday, Special Prosecutor Bill Elward of the State’s Attorney’s Appellate Prosecutor’s Office told Judge Ben Braun during a court hearing for Joliet police officer Erin Zilka, 36, that the owner of a Nissan truck driven by Rodrigo Marin, 43, has sought the return of the vehicle. Elward said he spoke with Zilka’s attorney Jeff Tomczak about the issue.

“I’ve instructed the state police not to do that until both myself and Mr. Tomczak had a chance to take a look at the vehicle,” Elward said.

Zilka and Marin were arrested following a multi-vehicle car crash on Interstate 55 that led to the death of Berwyn police officer Charles Schauer, 33, who was a

Stranger lists Auckland man’s car for sale on Facebook Marketplace

Auckland man Tony Bing only found out his 2008 BMW was being sold on Facebook by a stranger, when a buyer contacted him offering a significantly lower price than he had asked in his Trade Me listing.

Bing’s Trade Me listing was copied and posted by a profile claiming to be a car reseller, who listed the car as his own for less than half the price. The Facebook Marketplace seller’s account was created last week, under the name Amrit Patel.

“The buyer contacted me wanting to negotiate the price down to $6000, which got me a bit confused because I had listed it on Trade Me for $15,000. I eventually figured out the buyer was referring to a Facebook listing which I had no idea about,” Bing said.

Bing said he contacted the police, Netsafe and alerted Facebook on Saturday, but on Wednesday morning, the Facebook Marketplace listing was

Toyota’s new supercar showed off its lovely shape at Le Mans

Yay for new supercars!

Toyota

Toyota is building a supercar. Why? Because the Japanese automaker committed to continue racing in the World Endurance Championship, and as the current Le Mans Prototype class phases out, regulators installed the exciting Le Mans Hypercar class in its place. And per the rules, if Toyota wants to race in the class, it needs to make at least 25 of the race cars into a production car any of us can buy.

So, here’s our best look at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Super Sport thus far. The supercar bowed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, where Toyota walked away victorious for the the third year in a row. Perhaps surprisingly, the prototype Toyota brought was a roadster without a fixed roof. That certainly piques my interest in the GR Super Sport.

McLaren Senna GTR LM: Five tribute cars celebrate historic Le Mans victory in 1995

McLaren had a special run at the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours race. In what is considered by many as a magnanimous feat, five McLaren F1 GTRs finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th at the world’s toughest endurance race. Celebrating 25 years of this historic feat are five customer-commissioned examples of the McLaren Senna GTR, each lovingly referred to as the McLaren Senna GTR LM.

“The incredible cars of the McLaren Senna GTR LM collection are an exceptionally fitting way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Le Mans victory in 1995,” said Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive. “That achievement is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest endurance racing performances of all time, but for McLaren, its importance was even greater because it demonstrated an immediate and undeniable connection between the racing DNA of our brand and the start of our road car journey.”
