TPD Investigating Weekend Auto Burglaries At Multiple Hotels

TUSCALOOSA, AL. — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says more than 20 victims reported auto burglaries at multiple hotels around the city over the weekend.

TPD confirmed to Patch that it began receiving calls Sunday morning from victims claiming their vehicles had been broken into while in hotel parking lots. Instances of auto burglary were reported at Hotel Indigo on Greensboro Avenue, Comfort Inn on Jack Warner Parkway, Microtel Inn on Veterans Memorial Parkway and Hampton Inn on Harper Lee Drive.

Investigators said the burglaries, which involved windows busted out of many of the vehicles, either occurred Saturday night or early into the morning hours Sunday. It is also believed the same person or group of people is responsible.

Items were reportedly stolen from some of the vehicles, while others were rummaged through, with nothing taken.

North Korea may show new missiles at weekend military parade

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — For months, North Korea has been relatively uncombative, as leader Kim Jong Un grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, natural disasters and the deepening economic pain under years of tough U.S.-led sanctions.

But ahead of the 75th founding anniversary of his ruling party this weekend, speculation has risen that Kim may hold a massive military parade and unveil newly developed, powerful missiles. The goal, experts say, would be to bolster internal unity and draw U.S. attention amid deadlocked nuclear diplomacy between the countries.

“His people are considerably wearied and his economy is in trouble … so Kim Jong Un would want to mobilize his people and stress a self-reliant policy to quell their complaints and draw their loyalty,” Nam Sung-wook, a professor at Korea University in South Korea. “To do so, he would need new weapons, powerful weapons that would send a message to the entire

Brett Hearn able to keep Eastern States weekend on track

Lately, I find myself using pencils a lot more — this unpredictable COVID-19 ordeal has me canceling way too many events that were listed in my monthly planner.

According to Orange County Fair Speedway’s director of motorsports Brett Hearn, I can put my eraser away because he’s running the 59th annual Eastern States 200 weekend, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 (rain date Oct. 25) as scheduled.

“It will be a two-day schedule — we would do all of the qualifying on Friday and all of the features on Saturday and that will culminate on Saturday night with the annual 200 for the big-blocks,” Hearn said.

Only the modified, small-block modifieds and sportsman classes will be invited to the two-day deal. A street stock feature will be added on Saturday.  And with things not “normal” these days, Hearn and company are trying to keep some
